Waltham Watch Co. 18 size 15 jewel open face pendant-set Model 1883 with "Fred A. Filson" signature to movement.  Fred A. Filson is listed in the 1897-98 Waltham city directory as being an employee of the Waltham Watch Co. and as living at 64 Lowell Street at that time. The present watch is an excellent example of Waltham's practice of allowing employees to make personal watches from factory material and this movement's serial number is from a run of 7 jewel production but this movement was substantially upgraded with gold jewel settings, gold balance screws, and ornate nickel damascene.  Watch is fronted by a sunk-seconds enamel dial and is housed in a 20 year gold-filled Philadelphia Watch Case Co. case with very attractive engine turning and engraving detail.  Movement serial number is 3303152.

Not running.  Fully wound and balance is gummy.  Beautiful movement with excellent color and luster. Dial has a small patched chip above the upper left of its seconds-register, a light hairline above seconds-register, a minuscule nick to the center of its seconds-register, and a minuscule edge nick under bezel near 6.  Case is beautiful with superb engine turning and engraving detail.

$450 plus shipment.
