Waltham Watch Co. 18 size 21 jewel open face lever-set Santa Fe Route.  A very rare Model 1892 variant, I believe the total production of this open face 21 jewel Santa Fe Route is a bit under 200 made as all examples I have seen have been in the 7902501 to 7902700 serial range but not all watches in this range were signed Santa Fe Route as it appears a small fraction from this serial range were finished with Crescent St. signature.  These watches have a very unusual and attractive appearance with a distinctive mixed plate finish having damaskeened nickel main plate, gilt barrel bridge with a distinctive scrolled engraving pattern, and nickel balance cock with the same distinctive scrolled engraved pattern to its foot.  This watch is fronted by a double-sunk enamel "Waltham" signed dial which is I believe correct as I do not believe these Model 1892 Santa Fe Route movements were paired with a Santa Fe logo marked dial as the Model 1883 version was.  Watch is housed in a rolled gold-plate display case with engraved bezels, this particular case style was produced in the 1970s for the collector market and makes for an excellent way to show a favorite 18 size watch.  Movement serial number is 7902666.

Running and a very nice looking movement with excellent gilt and nickel color.  Main plate has some fine scratches immediately around the case screw position, and winding wheels have a few oxide spots.  Dial is superb.  Case is superb in nearly as-new condition and has clean plastic crystals.
