Illinois Watch Co. 18 size 15 jewel hunting case lever-set Stuart.  Good looking watch from the second Stuart production run which spanned serial numbers 2501-3000, this run was typically of keywind and keyset Model 1 movements but this example looks to have been factory converted to a stemwind lever-set Model 2 and based on features I think likely this factory conversion was done about 1880.  Watch is fronted by a high grade double-sunk fancy Roman numeral dial with Old English "Illinois Springfield Watch Co." signature and is housed in an impressive and substantial 6 ounce coin silver Dueber hunting case.  Movement serial number is 2683.

Running and a nice looking movement with some typical mild spots and marks.  Dial faces up very well but has a flake at the center above the hands, a few flakes at the right side of the inner chapter as well as a small crack tight along the right perimeter of the inner chapter with some fill material along the crack, a hairline in the outer chapter at 38 minutes, and a few edge flakes outside the minute chapter.  Case is attractive with normal even wear.  Front liftspring is a bit weak through the beginning of its motion and takes a touch of assistance at the beginning before taking over under its own power.
